Keen Puzzle

Introducing our latest creation, a compelling puzzle game developed on the sophisticated Godot 4 platform. Our game revitalizes the traditional KenKen puzzle concept, wrapping it in a sleek and modern interface, loaded with features for seasoned puzzlers and newcomers alike.

Before delving into the game's specifics, let's shed some light on the KenKen puzzle. It's a numerical logic game that takes Sudoku's principles up a notch. In KenKen, you are presented with a grid of varying size, filled with heavily outlined boxes called 'cages', each accompanied by a target number and an operation. The objective? Fill each row and column with digits (1 to the grid size), without repeating any digit within the same row or column. However, the catch lies in the 'cages'. The numbers you place in each cage must combine (in any order) to produce the target number using the specified operation. A perfect blend of arithmetic and logic makes KenKen a truly fascinating puzzle.

Now, let's explore the unique features of our KenKen puzzle game. Packed with a grand collection of 400 handcrafted puzzles, the game ensures your journey to become a master puzzler never becomes monotonous. The puzzles are organized across 20 neatly arranged pages. To select a puzzle, all you have to do is pick a page number from the first dropdown menu on the left and then choose the specific puzzle from the second dropdown.

Our game offers an intuitive system that fills in the grid with a simple left-click and marks possible answers with a right-click. To maintain a fair challenge, we've equipped the game with three hint systems. The default is the 'Obvious Hint', which flags any clear violations of the rules, such as duplicate numbers in a column or incorrect sums. If you prefer a more challenging experience, you can opt for the 'No Hint' mode. Alternatively, there's the 'Direct Solution Check', though we advise against this method as it reduces the puzzle-solving fun by enabling you to test every number against the solution.

Finally, we understand that puzzles can sometimes be lengthy affairs, so we've included undo/redo functions for those "oops" moments, and an auto-save/load feature to ensure your progress is always preserved. You can leave a puzzle mid-way and come back to it later, picking up exactly where you left off.

Here's a rundown of the game's control inputs, presented as a markdown list:

  • Filling in Answers
    • Left-click on a grid cell.
    • Press keys 1 to 6 on your keyboard or select from the virtual buttons on the right side panel to input numbers as answers.
    • To clear the currently selected grid cell, press the Backspace or Delete key, or click the Delete button in the right side panel.
  • Marking Potential Answers
    • Right-click on an unfilled grid cell.
    • Input potential answers similarly by pressing keys 1 to 6 or choosing from the virtual buttons on the right panel.

Could do with the circle at the side of each puzzle on the drop downs being colored in if you have completed the puzzle :)
